The Best-looking Bitmaps option prints your screen bitmaps (72 dpi) with no distortion, but at a slightly smaller size than shown on the screen (96% of original size).
• Always Align Objects with Bitmaps
If the Always Align Objects with Bitmaps option is checked in addition to Best-looking Bitmaps, the PLP will not only print your bitmaps smaller and with no distortion, but will also align the surrounding objects exactly with these bitmaps, thereby making them a smaller size as well.
• Improved Character Spacing
If the Improved Character Spacing (Kerning Pairs) option is checked, the spacing between characters will be adjusted based on the specific characters being printed, thereby improving the quality of the print. This is called Kerning. Certain applications, like Aldus® PageMaker®, have their own kerning which will take precedense over the PLP’s kerning. If you use these applications, we recommend that you leave the PLP kerning option checked.
• Track Kerning
Track Kerning is a feature that allows intercharacter spacing to be adjusted according to font size. The larger the type size, the closer the letters will be pulled together. This will make your document more aesthetically pleasing.
• Printable Area
The Printable Area option will increase the printable area of a page. If the Enlarged option is checked, the printable area of a piece of paper is as follows:
◊ US Letter: 8.0 by 10.6 inches
◊ US Legal: 8.0 by 13.5 inches*
◊ A4 Letter: 7.9 by 11.25 inches
◊ B5 Letter: 6.5 by 9.75 inches
◊ Memo: unchanged
* If printing to a PLP IIs from a Mac Plus, Mac SE, or Mac Classic, the printable area will be narrower.
If the Edge-to-edge option is checked, the PLP will attempt to increase the printable area to the left, right, and bottom edges, and 1/4 inch from the top edge. In certain configurations, this option will be grayed out.
